Pumpkin Welcome Sign

Its September y'all, que fall weather. I get so excited this time of the year, I love everything about fall. From the changing of the leaves to the new drinks Starbucks puts out. HURRAY for the return of the Pumpkin Spice Lattes. I decided to put out diy fall decor posts this month.

Of course with pumpkin spice lattes comes Fall decoration everywhere. But if you're like me and want to save some money to go toward your Starbucks addiction. You don't go out and buy expensive decorations. You do them yourself!
Each Monday for the rest of this month we will have a new Fall home decor craft that you can do by yourselves. This home decor craft is a cute pumpkin welcome sign. This does require some power tools and if you're a cluts like me please have someone who's handy with a jigg saw do certain steps for you.

What You Need:
- One sheet of plywood
- Some wood scraps that would be good for a stand
- Spray paint in Orange, Green and Black
- Faux fall leafs from Dollar Tree
- Stencils
- A jigg saw
- Pencil
- Painters tape

First step is you're going to need to take your sheet of ply wood and sketch out the pumpkin design you want with your pencil. However high or wide you make the pumpkin matters, you want enough room so that you can place "Welcome" on there nicely. I decided to make my pumpkin taller with that in mind.

Next came Jason's part. He's always looking for reasons to use his new tools and he hasn't gotten to use his jigg saw yet, so this was the perfect project. This step was easy you basically cut out the pumpkin drawing and go slow so that you don't splinter the plywood sheet.

*Jason did go over the sides with our new sander just to make sure they're smooth.*

Third step: You need to spray paint your pumpkin using your Orange and Green paint. I used painters tape to separate the pumpkin stem from the pumpkin. Also it helps keep any orange spray paint from getting on the stem which should be sprayed green. Once the orange spray paint dries do the same steps to paint your pumpkins stem green. I used three different brands of spray paint. Krylons Pumpkin orange, Rust Oleums Hunter green, and walmarts brand in black.

I waited a few days because I got sidetracked with reading to go and spray paint the welcome letters onto my pumpkin sign. I printed out some stencils and placed them on my sign while it was laying flat on the ground. Remember to protect the rest of your sign from the black spray paint. Once done let it dry and move on to the next step. I normally give it at least two to three hours drying time.

Okay fourth step and we're almost done..its time for decorations. You cant just put your pumpkin out there looking all plain. So I had some left over fabric leafs from the dollar tree last year and I haven't had anything to use them on. TILL NOW!!!! I couldn't figure out how exactly I wanted them to place so I just played around a little till I figured out the right placement, then hot glued them suckers down. Make sure you place them so that they don't cover your welcome letters.

Oh I also added something to my pumpkin just to add my little touch. I had some white paint left over from some project. I added some swirl designs on my pumpkin and dots. The green, orange and white just pops together.

FINALLY the last part. You can either hang your sign or make a stand for it. We chose a stand. Left over wood scraps from previous projects will work perfect for this.

I now officially love my pumpkin Welcome sign, I can use it from September through November, I'll have to make a replacement for December but there's plenty of time to think about that. Take a look at our finished piece!
